Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are the live prices?

Spot prices update every 15 minutes from international commodity feeds. Local jeweller prices typically include a 2-8% making charge over spot — that's not included in our calculator (it's a per-jeweller markup).

What's the difference between 24K and 22K gold?

24-karat gold is 99.9% pure (the most pure form). 22-karat is 91.6% pure (alloyed with copper or silver for hardness — most jewellery in South Asia is 22K). 21K = 87.5%, 18K = 75%, 14K = 58.3%, 10K = 41.7%.

What is a Tola and how is it different from a Gram?

1 Tola = 11.6638 grams (the standard Pakistan/India weight for gold). The traditional Tola Mutawatir is slightly different at 11.66 g exactly. Saudi Arabia uses Mithqal (4.25 g).

Should I trust calculators or always go to a jeweller?

Use calculators for initial price screening and Zakat planning. For the actual buy/sell transaction, always weigh the gold on a certified scale at the jeweller's — small weight discrepancies translate to large price differences.
