?What is the Percentage Calculator?
A percentage calculator handles the three most common percentage operations: finding a percentage of a number, determining what percentage one number is of another, and calculating percentage increase or decrease between two values. It is essential for shopping discounts, tax calculations, financial analysis, academic grades, profit margins, tip calculations, statistical comparisons, and countless other real-world problems. Every business and consumer decision involving fractions of a whole eventually reduces to a percentage calculation, which is why mastering this operation (or having a reliable tool for it) pays off in daily life.
The Formula
Percent literally means 'per hundred'. Dividing X by 100 converts the percentage to a decimal fraction, which you then multiply by the target number. For percentage change, the denominator is always the original (starting) value.
Practical Examples
A PKR 5,000 shirt at 30% off — discount = PKR 1,500, you pay PKR 3,500.
Exam score 72 out of 90 → 72 ÷ 90 × 100 = 80%.
Price rose from $40 to $52 → percentage increase = 30%.
17% GST on a PKR 10,000 invoice = PKR 1,700 tax, total PKR 11,700.
