?What is the Cost Per Unit Calculator?

A cost-per-unit calculator compares two products of different sizes to determine which offers better value per gram, ounce, liter, piece, or other unit of measurement. This is especially useful for grocery shopping (comparing different package sizes of the same item), bulk purchases (is Costco actually cheaper?), comparing branded versus generic versions, and making informed decisions at any retail store. Because packaging sizes vary widely even within the same product line, the 'cheaper-looking' option is often the worse deal once you compare per-unit — a classic supermarket strategy that this tool defeats in seconds.

The Formula

Unit Cost = Total Price ÷ Quantity. Compare Unit Cost A vs B.

Dividing price by quantity normalizes two different-sized products to the same per-unit basis. Whichever has the lower unit cost wins. Savings percentage = |A − B| ÷ (larger) × 100.

Practical Examples

1

500g cereal for PKR 400 (PKR 0.80/g) vs 1kg for PKR 700 (PKR 0.70/g) → 1kg saves 12.5%.

2

Coffee 250g for $9 ($0.036/g) vs 500g for $16 ($0.032/g) → larger pack is 11% cheaper per gram.

3

Shampoo 400ml for PKR 650 vs 750ml for PKR 1,100 → larger is slightly better per ml.

4

Tissue paper 2-ply 100 sheets for $3 vs 200 sheets for $5 → 200-pack wins per sheet.
